For the eighth year, not just a shop is partnering with Tate to give UAL students the opportunity to have their designs sold in Tate stores. This year we’re inviting you to create a poster design to be sold in Tate's shops (both in the galleries and online) from August 2026, and in not just a shop from October 2026.
Deadline: Monday 11 May 2026, 10am.
We encourage applications from all disciplines.
Designs can be conceptual, illustrative, typographic, photographic or mixed media.
Designs should be appealing to the public and represent the spirit of Tate Modern, Tate Britain, the city and its communities. Entries will be judged on their originality and public appeal.
Students currently studying at 1 of the 6 UAL colleges on a BA, MA, PHD or FdA level course.
Priority will be given to students who have not previously won the competition.
1 applicant can submit up to 3 different designs.
Please be selective when submitting your work. Ask friends to help edit if needed.
Prepare your designs, following the criteria:
Please note:
Winners will be contacted by Friday 5 July 2026.
The winning designs will be produced by Tate's in-house production department. The successful applicants will communicate directly with the department via email to provide Illustrator, EPS or TIFF files.
Copyright in the design will remain with the creator, while Tate will have an exclusive license to reproduce it for the current season. This means that the design should not be sold elsewhere through other retailers.
Up to 3 winning students will each receive:

Does your design represent and communicate the spirit of Tate Modern, Tate Britain, the city and its communities?
Commercially viable designs do not need prior context to understand the poster’s message.
Your design should have a wide public appeal. Consider who Tate’s audience is and where the poster would be displayed in their homes.
Colour can create a certain mood or theme and can highlight aspects of the design.
Please note that certain colours do not print well. For example, using too many darker colours might not stand out when printed. We recommend test printing to ensure your colouring is most impactful.
Does your design reflect the spirit of Tate Modern, Tate Britain, London and its communities in a fresh and contemporary way?
View Tate's current range and shape your design to offer something different from what they currently sell.
To ensure your design has the best chance of being selected, please avoid including the following:
Ensure you’re putting forward your best design. Check if your design is the correct image size, includes bleed along the edge, has high image quality, readable text size (if included), finished colouring, and so on.
