  • This is an application to have your products or work sold in not just a shop (both online and in store).

    Please complete all relevant fields fully and submit before the deadline which is Monday 3 March 2025, 10am.

    Depending on how far along you are in your business or practice, there are 2 routes to apply. Please read below and complete the route that is most relevant to you:

    Route 1 - new to selling

    Apply through this route if you have not sold to retailers before via wholesale nor have any current stockists. This route also applies to you if you have:

    • Never sold anything before or unsure how to price your work
    • You have sold to friends and/or family
    • Sold directly to customers via social media, at markets, through your own website or through a third party platform such as Etsy or not on the high street.
    • You have 2 or more products in a range or series
    • More than 1 limited edition print or photography (in an edition of 25 or less)
    • One-off fine artwork pieces (sculpture, painting, textile or drawing).

    How to apply

    Please complete the following no later than Monday 3 March 2025, 10am:

    • Section 1: Privacy statement and question on visa status (1-2 minutes). Please note if you are on a Student Route (Tier 4) visa you will not be able to submit your work for sale due to restrictions on your visa. Find more information on Selling your design products and artwork.
    • Section 2: Your details such as name and contact information, college and graduation year, Student ID, self-employment status (for data monitoring only) and equal opportunities questions. Please note that this will not affect your application nor be shown to the panel. (5-10 minutes)
    • Section 3: Here you will be asked questions about support you might need and areas you have considered in your business (such as USP, customer, sustainability). Please complete as best as you can, these questions are not essential to your application but are important. Here you will also upload your 1 minute video showcasing the products/artworks you would like to sell in the shop. (10 – 20 minutes)
    • Section 4: Please ignore this section
    • Section 5: Please review the dates relating to the selection process and let us know if you have any concerns relating to it. (1 minute)

    Route 2 - product wholesale experience

    Apply through this route if you have sold to retailers before via wholesale or you are applying with limited edition or one off artworks.

    This route applies to you if you have:

    • Existing stockist(s)
    • A good understanding of your wholesale and retail pricing.

    How to apply

    Please complete the following no later than Monday 3 March 2025, 10am:

  • Privacy notice

    The information you provide below will be collected by UAL in order to enter you into the open call submission and your work be considered for sale in not just a shop  (GDPR legal basis 6(1)(b) ‘necessary for entering into a contract’). 

    The personal data and designs of unsuccessful applicants will be deleted within 2 months of the application deadline.

  • The government states that if you are on a Student Route Visa (Tier 4) you cannot be self-employed, which means unfortunately we are unable to sell your work through not just a shop. See other ways you can engage with us at Selling your design products and artwork.

  • Your 8-digit Student ID number will be similar to: 12345678 or ABC12345678

  • Careers and Employability is researching how many UAL students and recent graduates become self-employed. This information is being collected for UAL’s self-employment monitoring and has no impact on your application.  

  • This can be your own name if you're registered as a sole trader or freelancer.
  • Providing the following information is optional. We collect this information in order to promote and monitor equal opportunities for all. All responses are confidential. Please indicate if any of these apply to you:
  • Application Route 1 - new to selling

    Apply through this route if you have not sold to retailers before via wholesale nor have any current stockists.

    This route also applies to you if you have:

    • Never sold anything before or unsure how to price your work
    • You have sold to friends or family

    • One-off fine artwork pieces (sculpture, painting, textile or drawing).
  • This could include function, concept and the unique selling point, which could be e.g. style, technique or production.
  • If so, please share in a few sentences below.

  • This could be generally speaking or in specific areas relating to your products or ranges, and could include pricing, packaging, branding, manufacturing and marketing.

  • This may be in the form of a series of 1-1 sessions and a small fund of money. It will be offered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Upload 1 minute video of your products or artworks here

    Please upload your video to Youtube or Vimeo and share the link with us here.

    This should be a non-stylised video taken on your phone or device, that is no longer than 1 minute long It should not include graphics, music or animation.

    You will not be assessed on the style of the video. What is important is to include as much information as possible on the products/ artwork. They should be clearly seen in good lighting with minimal background distraction.

  • Application Route 2 - product wholesale experience

    Apply through this route if you have sold to retailers before via wholesale.

    This route applies to you if you have:

    • Existing stockist(s)
    • A good understanding of your wholesale and retail pricing.
  • Attach your wholesale catalogue

  • Accepted file types: doc, docx, pdf, Max. file size: 10 MB.
  • Attach your price list or line sheet

  • Accepted file types: doc, docx, pdf, Max. file size: 10 MB.
  • Selection Panel

    The selection panel will run in the following way:

    Stage 1: Your work will be considered against the eligibility criteria by the not just a shop team. 

    Stage 2:  If you meet the eligibility, your video submission will go through a pre-selection by at least two members of the selection panel. They will assess whether it will go through to stage 3.

    Stage 3: We will get in touch with you to let you know if you have gone through to stage 3, and invite you to deliver your work to not just a shop to be viewed by the panel in person*

    Stage 4: if you have not been successful you will have the chance to request feedback from the panel. It can be rare to receive feedback in the professional world, so we encourage you to request it as it may help with future applications, improve your business or work out the next steps.   

    *Terms and conditions of delivering work in person

    If you are UK based:

    • You cover delivery costs, and not just a shop will cover return costs via Royal Mail tracked 48hrs.
    • You are also able to collect work from us in person, within 2 weeks
    • If we do not hear back from you within 2 weeks of the panel for either collection or return we have to dispose of the work due to storage constraints.

    If you are outside of the UK you have 2 options to present your work:

    • You can deliver your work to us but you are responsible for covering the return costs and arrangements.
    • Alternatively you we can show your video submission again to the larger panel.  We recommend this option to avoid large customs and shipping fees.
    • If we do not hear back from you within 2 weeks of the panel for either collection or return we have to dispose of the work due to storage constraints.

    28 March 2025: Selection panel for Route 1 and Route 2 applicants

    04 April 2025: Outcome of selection panel sent via email 

    Should your products be accepted you will be asked to submit a head shot, a short bio for your maker profile and additional high-resolution images of your products and making/process/studio shots for marketing purposes.
